Full Report: Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE)

Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) project is a program of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative. It is in 16 states and 2 cities of which Arizona is one. Arizona State University is collaborating with Arizona Department of Health Services in this project.

The Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative develops ways to recognize and anticipate public health effects of climate change by applying climate science, predicting scientific impacts and preparing flexible localize programs. The BRACE project provides a framework for guiding states and cities on relevant strategies and programs aimed at reducing adverse health impacts due to changing climate. The BRACE framework also provides guidance on analytical and programmatic activities by developing public health adaptation strategies especially for local health officials.

In Arizona State Phase I has been completed and a report has been published. The report addresses the first step in the framework, which is focusing on climate-related hazards and associated health impacts of major importance to Arizona - namely, extreme heat and air pollution.
