Cedar Tree Foundation – Applications for Environmental Education Teacher Professional Development

Date Due: 09/30/17

Amount: $20,000 to $100,000

Summary: The Cedar Tree Foundation is interested in communicating the facts and urgency of environmental issues taught in schools in the United States by supporting organizations that provide summer professional development opportunities for current teachers. We are interested in programs which allow teachers to have an engaging hands-on environmental education experience with a cohort of other teachers, include networking and follow-up activities that support teachers in building their skills and bringing innovative and inspiring environmental stewardship education back to their classrooms in the fall. To this end, the Cedar Tree Foundation invites organizations that provide professional development opportunities for teachers who are working in the school systems to communicate urgency and cultivate stewardship around environmental problems to submit a proposal for funding. Compelling opportunities for school administrators that translate into impact in the classroom or school community will also be considered.

Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) – Coastal Program

Date Due: 09/30/17

Amount: $10,000

Summary: The Coastal Program is a voluntary, incentive-based program that provides direct technical assistance and financial assistance in the form of cooperative agreements to coastal communities and landowners to restore and protect fish and wildlife habitat on public and private lands. Coastal Program staff coordinate with project partners, stakeholders and other Service programs to identify geographic focus areas and develop habitat conservation priorities within these focus areas. Geographic focus areas are where the Coastal Program directs resources to conserve habitat for federal trust species.

Project work plans are developed strategically, in coordination with partners, and with substantial involvement from Service field staff. Projects must advance our mission, promote biological diversity, and be based upon sound scientific biological principles. Program strategic plans inform the types of projects funded under this opportunity. Applicants seeking funding under this program should review the program strategic plan and also contact the regional Coastal Program office prior to submitting an application for funding

NSF – Chemical Synthesis (SYN)

Date Due: 09/30/17

Amount: Not Specified

Summary: The Chemical Synthesis program focuses on the development of new, efficient synthetic methodologies and on the synthesis of complex and/or challenging molecules.  Typical synthetic targets involve novel structures, structures displaying unique properties, or structures providing pathways to discover and elucidate new phenomena.  Examples of supported research areas include the development of innovative reagents, catalysts for synthetic transformations, discovery of new synthetic methods, target-oriented synthesis, green synthesis, and synthesis of novel organic, organometallic, and inorganic structures.

Research in this program will generate fundamental knowledge of chemical synthesis that enables the development of new avenues of basic chemical research and transformative technologies. Submissions that address national needs for sustainability are encouraged.  Examples include the development of new synthetic methods using earth-abundant and inexpensive chemicals, fundamental studies that improve our understanding of rare earth elements, and the conversion of non-petroleum based resources into useful building blocks.

DOE – Innovative Development in Energy-Related Applied Science (IDEAS)

Date Due:  09/30/17

Amount: $500,000

Summary: This FOA provides a continuing opportunity for the rapid support of early-stage applied research to explore innovative new concepts with the potential for transformational and disruptive changes in energy technology. IDEAS awards are intended to be flexible and may take the form of analyses or exploratory research that provides the agency with information useful for the subsequent development of focused technology programs. IDEAS awards may also support proof-of-concept research to develop a unique technology concept, either in an area not currently supported by the agency or as a potential enhancement to an ongoing focused technology program.

Applications must propose concepts that are not covered by open ARPA-E focused FOAs and that also do not represent incremental improvements over existing technology. IDEAS awards are defined as single-phase efforts of durations 12 months or less with a total project cost of $500,000 or less and will be issued through Grants.

NSF — Geography and Spatial Sciences Program (GSS)

Date Due: 09/07/17, first Thursday in September annually thereafter

Amount: $40,000 -$400,000

Summary: The Geography and Spatial Sciences Program sponsors research on the geographic distributions and interactions of human, physical, and biotic systems on Earth. Investigators are encouraged to propose plans for research about the nature, causes, and consequences of human activity and natural environmental processes across a range of scales. Projects on a variety of topics qualify for support if they offer promise of contributing to scholarship by enhancing geographical knowledge, concepts, theories, methods, and their application to societal problems and concerns.

NSF – Geography and Spatial Sciences Program–Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Awards (GSS-DDRI)

Date Due: 09/09/17; 02/09/18

Amount: $16,000

Summary: GSS supports research that involves development of methods and techniques to advance geographic and spatial scientific research. Proposals to develop and advance methods generally are most competitive when they also address substantive questions that are grounded in broader theoretical contexts, because the development of new methods is most compelling when their wider-ranging utility is complemented with convincing demonstrations of their practical utility to address substantive problems.
